Sodium erythorbate on sünteetiliselt toodetud antioksüdant, mis aeglustab toidu oksüdeerimist ja halvenemist. Seda kasutatakse eelkõige lihatoitudes, kalaroogades ja konserveeritud toidus värskuse säilitamiseks ning värvuse muutuse vältimiseks. Aine aitab pikendada toidu säilivusaega, muutes selle toiduainetesse lisatava E 316-e populaarseks konserveerimisvahendiks.
